What do we do?
Dreadnought Unit is the newest section to open as part of 3rd Hayling Scouts The Unit is a Fellowship Unit which means, it is for any persons over the age of 18 who may not be quite ready to grow up yet, want to stay involved with Scouting, and may not necessarily have the time to become a warranted leader. As a unit we will be doing all the traditional Scouting activities such as camping, pioneering, playing with fires and of course going to Playzone; as well as some untraditional Scouting activities (we’ll let you think on that)….
In Dreadnought our primary aim is of course to have fun; we will of course hold the customary meetings but these will be monthly. However there will be many more events and activities going on in between each meeting. Examples of some of these could be:
- Going on camps to unexplored Scout camp-sites across the UK (and Europe)!
- Fire building!
- Raft racing!
- Curry making!
- Bowling!
- Climbing!
- Scrap heap challenges (can you make a LandRover from a lawnmower)!
And some of the not so fun but still very rewarding activities include:
- Helping at younger sections camps – sharing our wealth of knowledge (such as fire building)
- 18-25 year old Dreadnought members will be able to represent Dreadnought at county Scout Network events such as Trek cart (we go to win), Evo, Christmas parties etc.
- Catering at group events.
- Attending training courses to become instructors for activities of your choice (archery, air rifle shooting etc.), This will enable us to provide more skills to the younger sections.
We also aim to help 3rd Hayling Scout group not only to be there for extra hands but to help with Fund Raising.
