“Dreadnought VSU” Who were they some might say?
Well, they were a well renowned Venture Scout Unit who represented 3rd Hayling at Venture Scout events (for those over 16). However the restructuring of Scouting saw the end of Venture Scout Units all over the UK and with it Dreadnought VSU died.
Several scouts from 3rd Hayling who remember and revered Dreadnought VSU with the hope of one day joining their honoured ranks were more than a little upset by their demise, and so got together and guess what….
Dreadnought is back!
Flying under the well remembered Tasmanian devil but as a new form of Scout Unit, we are now an Active Support unit. The restructuring of Scouting has made it possible to allow the Dreadnought name to rise from the ashes and reclaim its place in Scouting legends once more. Not only that, but thanks the definition of Active Support the original members of Dreadnought VSU are more than welcome join their brothers in arms and claim back the awards that were held by Dreadnought VSU in the days of old. But as with time several of these original brave VSU members are now a bit ‘over the hill’, so we need some new blood too, especially if we want the Dreadnought name on trophies once more.
So all those out there who remember Dreadnought be aware we are back and here to stay.
